The Mazda OEM VVT or Variable Valve Timing Actuator for the MZR DISI is a genuine Mazda OEM part. The Mazda OEM VVT Actuator fits the Mazdaspeed 3, Mazdaspeed 6, and CX-7. In early model MZR Engines (pre 2011), it is common to see this acuator fail and because of this, Mazda redesigned the VVT Actuator to address the failure points. This is the updated vvt actuator and is used to replace the ones that fail.

If you have a rattling sound in your engine at start up, it is likely the sound of the timing chain touching the timing cover due to low pressure in the Actuator. If you are hearing this noise coming from your Mazdaspeed 3, Mazdaspeed 6, or CX-7, then it is time to replace the VVT Actuator.
